Clare Powney

Co-founder and Project Officer, Dementia Matters Here (fordshire)

I have a varied background having worked in local government, been a company director and partner, an educationalist and most recently for a number of years as a Services/Dementia Support Manager for the Alzheimer’s Society. My passion for supporting people affected by dementia in Herefordshire, prompted me to co-found Dementia Matters Here, as I felt that more could be achieved working independently at a local level. Following the lock-down situation I felt we needed to respond to support those isolated and dealing with dementia; so we launched the first online meeting point run on the ethos of the UK Meeting Centre Programme Meeting Centres. The situation the country has just gone through, has shown the vital importance of being able to keep in touch and support people at a community level, by being a part of community makers I hope that I can support other groups or interested parties, through the sharing of my experience and practice, to set up their own local community support groups for people affected by dementia.
