Maya Howell
Director, Dementia Friendly East Lothian CIC
I recently joined the board at Dementia Friendly East Lothian. Due to physical meeting centres closing, we created an online meeting space in the form of weekly Friendship Groups on Zoom. DFEL now hosts a programme of events through this platform, as well as creating links with other organisations to bring a bit of real life to the virtual world (virtual tea parties). Digital inclusion is of course a big part of this, and with the help of Kirrie Connections DFEL have started to develop a series of personalised ‘how-to’ guides to give people tailored know-how and confidence to get online. Community Makers has been a valuable resource in sharing these ideas and learning from others, while we navigate best practices in these new online community spaces.
